Happy New Year, Happy Skin
It’s a New Year’s tradition to make resolutions, share messages, and exchange wishes. This year, I looked through new year quotes, and of course, thought about skin. Anyone who knows me, knows I am very passionate about skin.
Here are my top five messages to you, as 2023 begins. Wow, 2023! It’s hard to believe!
1. “The magic in new beginnings is truly the most powerful of them all”. – Josiyah Martin
One of the amazing things about skin is its ability to regenerate and heal. Skin naturally goes through a renewal process––every 28 days when younger and longer as we age. Skin cells slowly die and inhibit the absorption and level of penetration of skin care products, whose benefits our skin craves. Clearing the way for a new skin “canvas” can be a critical time to address skin issues like dry, rough, bumpy, discolored, or sun damaged skin. Services like chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or microneedling allow you to take full advantage of your new canvas. When done correctly, this new beginning is the most powerful time to get your skin on the right track.
2. “Don’t live the same year 75 times and call it a life.” – Robin Sharma
As you age, your skin care routine should adjust to the changes in your skin and the changes in weather. Each phase of life and our different seasons, requires varied routines and products. For example, now is the season for peels, exfoliation, and fat-based cleaners. Winter takes a toll on our skin because of its dry air and bitter cold. The products we choose can help ease the negative impact of the weather. Likewise, different products can help combat hyperpigmentation, rough texture, fine lines, and wrinkles. If you’re not sure how to best treat your skin at this moment and this time of your life, schedule a consultation with a reputable skin therapist. At Lustre, I offer both in-house and video consultations.
3. “What the new year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the new year.” – Vern McLellan
There are many benefits from the right skin care routine––first of which is skin health. I believe that healthy skin is beautiful skin. If you use the correct products, stay committed to the routine, and educate yourself about your skin, the benefits can be dramatic. Many of the troubling issues disappear, your skin (our largest organ) functions the way it should, and confidence increases. Once your routine is established, it’s so much easier to maintain. The investment you make to your skin health now, impacts your future. What will you bring to your skin this new year?
4. “It's a new dawn; It's a new day; It's a new life, for me, And I'm feeling good.” –Nina Simone
The way we look does impact the way we feel. Many psychologists have studied the relationship between appearance and confidence. A lack of confidence can cause issues in our relationships, work life, and how we move through the day. Healthy, glowing skin makes you appear more relaxed and can prevent common issues like acne, wrinkles, and dryness, which can decrease confidence. Our skin is the largest barrier between our body and the outside world. It protects us, but it also helps us shine.
5. “In our perfect ways. In the ways we are beautiful. In the ways we are human. We are here. Happy New Year’s. Let’s make it ours.” – Beyoncé
